Ideas for my soundtrack

For my trailer I thought it would be best to look at the UK Charts for inspiration. My reasoning for this is that I've decided that due to the fact my film is a romance film the type of song/s playing in the background of the trailer should be something up-beat and possibly very cheesy and I do believe that is what the 2015 charts have to offer. I would also like the song at some point to have a climax like some of the ones in the trailers I looked at previously did.

The top 10 currently are: (02 October 2015 - 08 October 2015)
1. Writing on the Wall by Sam Smith
2. What do you mean By Justin Bieber
3. Locked Away By R City ft. Adam Levine
 4. Easy Love by Sigala
5. Can’t feel my face By Weekend
6. On My Mind by Ellie Goulding
7. How Deep Is Your Love by Calvin Harris & Disciples
 8. Do it again By Pia Mia ft. Chris Brown & Tyga
9. Runnin’ By NaughtyBoy/BeyoncĂ©/A Benjamin
10. Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself by Jess Glynne

Sam Smith's song Writing on the Wall is an elegant song however, it is far too slow and dramatic for my film if not actually the complete opposite.
Justin Bieber's What do you mean is a potential, it up beat and 'poppy' and the lyrics of the song are talking about how the actions and feelings of one person contradict themselves resulting in the other person being confused about how the other feels for them. The lyrics of the song match the plot of my film so if I am able to get permission for this song I would defiantly like to use sections if not all of it in my trailer.
R City ft. Adam Levine's song Locked Away is sort of the right song. There are elements of the song that I think would be really fitting for example the running theme of insecurity in our flaws and about unconditional love, these themes do also run throughout my film so it is lyrics appropriate. But from what I've seen in trailers as the footage is the main focus to actually hear what the lyrics are saying you have to focus on them not what's happening in the trailer which is why I’m hesitant about using this for my trailer.
Sigala's song Easy Love is another good example of what I had in my head before looking for ideas, again like Justin Beiber I do think it'd be really hard to get permission to use this song but if I could I would. It is upbeat, fun, about love and has a sort of drop over the chorus which I can envision going over a certain part of my trailer. The lyrics from this song are also appropriate and I think at certain parts of my trailer I may attempt to make them the main focus of the scene. (Providing I get permission.)

Weekend's song Can't feel my face is again an upbeat 'poppy' song but I think it's too lively for my storyline. It's the backbeat its too 'jump-up' and I just don't think it would work as well as some of the other songs I have looked at so far.
Ellie Goulding's song On My Mind like Weekend's song isn't right for my trailer, the back beat of the song has a very strong jumpy base throughout and I think it would disrupt the flow of the trailer. If it was only over the chorus I would consider using it but it seems to be throughout most of the song. Furthermore the lyrics are about not having feelings for someone and being rather bitter about it and that isn't the impression I want to give off about my characters.
Calvin Harris&Disciples' song minus the chorus would fit, I think the chorus needs to be a bit faster in pace, its a slow and dramatic dance song but I like the underlying question how deep is your love, because I could easily apply that to my two main characters as throughout the storyline they are questioning how much do they really love one another and what sort of love is it.
Pia Mia ft. Chris Brown & Tyga's firstly lyrically is all wrong, its about a one-night stand which is the exact opposite to my trailer's storyline. Secondly the song is swaying from 'poppy' to rap and even though most rap songs are about love, this storyline is more suited to pop than rap.
NaughtyBoy/Beyoncé/A Benjamin's song Runnin' at first I didn't like the sound of but if you skip to just before the chorus and then after the chorus I think potentially I could use this song, its got an upbeat chorus, but afterwards its slightly slower and dramatic but I can picture it fitting with the scenes in my trailer. On the other hand not the lyrics so much, they're about losing yourself and someone you love which I guess I could make work but I'd rather my audience think that the storyline wasn't about loss of love.
Jess Glynne's song Don't be so hard on yourself would be good for my trailer I think, It starts off with a strong happy beat and it continues throughout the whole song.  I like this because It will imply to the audience that it's a cheerful film not filled with doom and gloom. If I was to use this song I think I would have it as an instrumental, not that I don't think the lyrics would be appropriate because they would but because I think it's a lovely bit of music and actually just doesn't need the lyrics over it to give off the effect that I'd want to have.

On a final note

Last week in lesson we were watching the year 10's music video's and one really stood out and it turned out that he has created the song and sang it himself. The song was similar to the ones I've spoken about above and I think I am going to ask him if I can use his song for my trailer.

The reason I'm doing my soundtrack planning so early is so that if its the case that I don't get a response from the producer or they say no I can then work on finding another song or even produce my own alongside with my brother. If I was to leave it till last minuet and they said no I would end up either having a song I don't want to use or a silent trailer.
