Film Trailer- When?

Before attempting to make a film trailer you need to consider that the trailer needs to be pretty much perfect, a perfect representation of the film without giving too much away and spoiling the film. I will need to consider the timing and the placing of the trailer itself and in doing so work out when is the best time to release it as you need to allow enough time for the trailer to reach enough people and build-up the excitement but if you release it too early you run the risk the interest in the film to decrease by the time it reaches the box office. You must also consider the genre of the film and the setting to co-ordinate what time of year you release your film, For example films in the romance genre are typically released in February around Valentines Day and Films to do with Christmas are released in December, if a Christmas film was released around Easter time there would not be much of a hype for it meaning its takings in the box office would most likely be low leading the film to be unsuccessful.

The prime time to release films is between the months of June and August because its Summertime, meaning school students;University students and Workers have time off and during this time it is likely that they would enjoy a trip to the cinema as the main age group of cinemagoers is children to young adults so by releasing your film during the time that they have the most spear time you are more likely to get a larger audience watching your film. When thinking about continuing you film into a sequel or even just a remake you have to allow enough time between them otherwise you wont allow the first film to reach its full potential. When you release a film you are able to get so much out of it now- you are able to make DVDs, Blu Ray,Sound tracks and other kinds of merchandise and by releasing the next film too soon you lose out on exhausting all of these possibilities. On the other hand you cant leave it too long otherwise the buzz from the first film will wear up and it will minimilse the interest in the film leading to a decrease in purchases of the merchandise.
